Oops. Sorry it has been so long since I have posted. And a lot has gone on in my life. One day perhaps I will have a chance to sit down and write about it. Ha.
Anywhoo, I've been thinking about doing this for awhile but haven't done anything about it. I am ready to do something about it but don't know where to begin. So I turn to my blogging audience (anyone left out there?) for your help and possible knowledge.
I am thinking of becoming a doula. And perhaps further down the road - a midwife. But I'll stick with a doula for now.
And that is what I am up to. Where do I go from here?
Anyone know anything about becoming a doula or know anyone who is one/has used one. Etc?
If so, let me know!!!!

I checked that but I didn't see anything about an actual course or something to take. Just about ways to become certified in that group. I was a little confused.
hey Nat. I don't know if you know this about me, but I attended doula training in Seattle about 10 years ago. I never became certified, but the course itself was very informative and useful for my massage practice and a few births that I attended. I took the course through the Seattle Midwifery School. Of course, this will not help you in Detroit, but I wonder if they have any comparable school or if they have a program for nurse midwifery that may do a doula training. I have a few great books that you can look at when you come here NEXT WEEK!!! One is: Mothering the Mother and another is called The Birth Partner. I could probably also scrounge up the handouts and materials I got from the class for you to peruse through and photocopy when you’re here. I’ll be interested to hear more of your thoughts on this. Big love!
here's a way to find workshops being held in your neck of the woods.

I think its a great idea!!
We used a doula. It was the second best decision we made. The best was an epidarol.
Saw this info online:
The Association of Labor Assistance and Childbirth Educators ALACE.org and Doula Oganizations of North America at www.DONA.com
Thanks for the help guys. I have tried to find a course through Dona.org but the instructors in Michigan (And probably in most places but New York) only teach courses over the weekend. The one I have been in contact with here has tried to do them at other times but never had enough people sign up for it to be worth it.
I haven't found a midwifery school yet.
Hmm.....
DO IT
DO IT
DO IT
Seek and you shall find!!!!
Nat---you'll be awesome.
I almost did it...you can do most of the training on your own...
Try and you will succeed!!!!!!!!!!
